How RoyaltyBook is built

This page documents the pipeline behind the directory, map, production totals, and open data—what the sources are, exactly which records qualify, what we refuse to infer, and where the gaps are.

The publication pipeline

  1. Source current status and land description. RoyaltyBook reads the official ECMC Daily Activity Dashboard export and keeps rows currently coded PR (producing) with a complete section-township-range location and recognized ECMC well class.
  2. Reconcile the physical well. The base API number is matched exactly to ECMC’s well Feature Service for field, spud date, and an actual measured latitude/longitude qualifier.
  3. Aggregate a complete production year. The same base API is queried against ECMC’s annual COGIS well results for January–December 2025. RoyaltyBook sums returned sidetrack rows under that base API; no name matching is used. ECMC states monthly volumes are complete 75 days after month-end.
  4. Validate. The importer rejects malformed API numbers, duplicate annual wellbore rows, incomplete dates, non-producing statuses, unknown classification codes, unexpected source identities, and coordinates outside the Weld County guard.
  5. Correct. Suppressions and corrections are append-only ledgers. A material reversal is recorded rather than silently overwritten.
  6. Publish once. Profiles, map data, coverage counts, sitemap URLs, and the open-data file come from the same rows in one deterministic build.

Each profile also links to ECMC’s order search prefilled with that well’s section, township, and range. Those results are candidates for record review—not a declaration that a specific order governs the well. Units, specific order applicability, and recorded instruments still require a separately cited join and human review. Fuzzy matches remain candidates, never public facts.

We publish the instrument. We do not declare the owner.

Yes: “Deed recorded in 1962 conveying an undivided 1/4 mineral interest.”

No: “The Smith family owns 1/4 of the minerals.”

RoyaltyBook points to recorded evidence. It does not render title conclusions or legal advice.

Known gaps, stated plainly

  • This is a 250-record release, not a complete Weld County or Colorado well inventory.
  • A section-level order result is not a well-level determination; units, governing orders, and recorded mineral or lease instruments are not yet joined.
  • Reported production is not a royalty calculation and does not show ownership, decimal interest, deductions, prices, or payment status.
  • The unclaimed-property finder is not yet connected to the live state roll.
  • A missing profile is not evidence that no well, unit, order, instrument, or ownership interest exists.
